What Is THC-O?

THC-O (sometimes spelled THCo or THC-O-ac) is short for THC-O-Acetate — it’s a powerfully psychoactive analog of THC. THC-O produces a similar high to other forms of THC — only slightly more psychedelic. Low doses feel virtually identical to delta 9 THC, moderate doses are nearly psychedelic in terms of the more intense visuals and the altered headspace it creates.

THC-O-Acetate, also sometimes referred to as ATHC, is a cannabinoid just like CBD, CBG, or THC. The main difference is that THC-O is a minor cannabinoid that only shows up in trace amounts in hemp/cannabis.

Just like most cannabinoids, THC-O binds to the cannabinoid receptors in your brain and is a fat-soluble oil. What makes this cannabinoid different from THC is the Acetate group attached to the main THC base. What does that mean? Well according to the small amount of evidence and information out about THC-O…it makes THC bind to your cannabinoid receptors more frequently. For many, this will mean it is stronger. The effects of Delta-8 THC on each individual, to clarify, will be unique and hard to generalize in just a few words. For instance, the average experience could best be explained by imagining a combination of the best parts of CBD and Delta-9 THC (without the Delta-9 of course!).
